ALPHARETTA, Ga. – USC men’s golf finished the final two holes of the round three-under-par as a late rally put its team total at one-under par putting it sixth out of 14 teams after round one at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
The Trojans sit sixth amongst a field of 14 teams including seven top-25 teams as they counted a 70-72-72-73 (287, -1) on day one. Virginia leads the tournament at nine-under par.
The reigning Big Ten Golfer of the Week, freshman Jack Buchanan, continued his success as he has now strung together four straight rounds under par. Buchanan carded a 70 (-2) and is tied for 11th in the field after the first round. The freshman started his round with three straight birdies and was four under par on the front nine.
Sophomore Jack Jerge and senior Gavin Aurilia both sit at even-par after the first 18 holes and are tied for 21st. Jerge posted a 35 (-1) on the front and tied junior Antonio Safa for the best score on the back nine with a 37 (+1). Aurilia went 34-38 on the front and back as he birdied hole No. 18 to push him to even par at the end of the round.
Safa provided the last counting score on the day as he was one-over par. The junior was part of the crew that birdied No. 18, as he is tied for 29th.
Sophomore Nicolas Dominguez finished out the lineup with a four-over-par 76, and is tied for 55th.
USC heads into round two at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate starting at 7:15 a.m. PT/10:15 a.m. ET tomorrow at the Golf Club of Georgia.
