Two Cougs Sit in Top-20 After Opening Round in Clash at Boulder Creek


BOULDER CITY, Nev. (October 20, 2024) – Washington State women’s golfers Alice Johansson and Madelyn Gamble each fired opening rounds of two-under par at the Clash at Boulder Creek in Nevada Sunday afternoon.
 
Johansson and Gamble sit tied for 17th after carding opening rounds of 70 in the opening 18 holes and are just one stroke away from the Top-10 while WSU sits in eighth out of the 17 teams, just three strokes out of fifth. The sophomore Johansson recorded four birdies while Gamble tallied three.
 
“I’m really proud of our team for shooting even par with no double-bogeys throughout the opening round,” head coach Kevin Tucker said. “We played well today and hope to make a few more birdies tomorrow.”

The Course and Tournament Format

The Clash at Boulder Creek is held at the Desert Hawk Coyote Run course at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

 

The course will play as a par-72 at 6,334 yards.

Teams will play 18 holes Sunday, 18 Monday and wrap up play Tuesday with 18 holes.

The Field

In addition to Washington State and host Northern Arizona, Boise State, CSU Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Drake, Fresno State, Illinois State, Incarnate Word, Northern Colorado, San Francisco, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, Tarleton State, UTEP, UC Riverside and UTRGV make up the 17-team field.
