Miu Takahashi recorded a hole-in-one on her way to a 71 (-1) to lead the Nebraska women’s golf team in the final round of the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas on Monday.
Takahashi, a senior from Nasu-machi, Japan, aced the 165-yard, par-3 fourth hole to highlight her best round of the season on the 6,111-yard, par-72 layout at the Kissing Tree Golf Course.
Takahashi closed the tournament in a tie for 61st, while helping the Huskers to an 11th-place team finish in the 12-team field.
Lauren Thiele led Nebraska with a three-round total of 226 (+10) to tie for 49th overall in the 68-player field. The redshirt sophomore from Wahoo, Neb., produced rounds of 73 and 76 on Monday, before closing with a 77 Tuesday.
True freshman Eden Lohrbach (Ames, Iowa) was Nebraska’s No. 2 finisher with a three-round total of 229 (+13) to take 54th, including a final-round 73 (+1). Lohrbach opened with back-to-back rounds of 78 on Monday.
Sophomore Hannah Kono was NU’s No. 3 finisher in the tournament with her tie for 56th at 231 with three consecutive rounds of 77 (+5).
Freshman Danica Lundgren (Austin, Texas) rounded out the Husker contingent in a tie for 65th at 239 (+23), including a final-round 74 (+2) on Tuesday that counted toward Nebraska’s team total.
No. 23 TCU won the team title with a three-round total of 842 (-22), one shot better than runner-up Houston at 843 (-21). Oklahoma took third at 844 (-20), while Ohio State and Texas Tech tied for fourth at 849 (-15).
Nebraska closed with a three-round score of 915 (+51) to finish one shot ahead of Northern Illinois.
TCU’s Kirstin Angosta took medalist honors at 206 (-10) with a one-stroke win over five golfers, including teammate Camille Min-Gaultier, UNLV’s McKenzi Hall, New Mexico’s Maria Garcia, Texas Tech’s Lauren Zaretsky and Oklahoma’s Reagan Chaney.
Nebraska closes its fall tournament schedule next week at the Hurricane Invitational (Oct. 28-29) in Miami.
