BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt men’s golfer Rowan Sullivan was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
It is the first career SEC weekly accolade for Sullivan, as he shares the award with LSU’s Arni Sveinsson. He earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Week honors after collecting the first top-three finish of his career at last week’s Turtle Point Invitational. The golfer tied for third in Killen, Alabama, after carding a career-best 7-under 209 over three rounds.
Sullivan finished under-par in his first two rounds at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club. He opened the tournament at 3-under 69 in Round 1, then matched his personal-best 18-hole score of 4-under 68 in Round 2. The Charleston, South Carolina, native carded even par in Round 3 to end his week at 7-under 209 and establish a new career-best 54-hole score.
The golfer made his Vanderbilt debut earlier this season after not competing during his first year on campus in 2023-24. Sullivan appeared in four tournaments this fall, playing as an individual at each event. He ended the 2024 fall season with a stroke average of 72.25 through 12 rounds and finished under par in five rounds. He carded a career-low 4-under 68 on two separate occasions, first in Round 2 of the Valero Texas Collegiate and then again in Round 2 of the Turtle Point Invitational.
The Vanderbilt men’s golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2024-25 campaign last week, as the Commodores placed eighth at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. Vandy returns to the course Jan. 27-29, when they travel to Lake Sherwood, California, for the Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club.
