Li Pacing Illini after First Round at Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Fighting Illini women’s golf ended the first round of the Landfall Tradition in 13th after carding a team total of 296 (+8) today at the Country Club of Landfall.

Yurang Li fired a 1-under 71 to begin the tournament, tallying six birdies on the day. After a triple-bogey on No. 3, Li responded with four-straight birdies to finish the front nine at even par. The sophomore totaled two more birdies on the back to end the round tied for 13th. She also ended the day tied for the lowest scoring average on par 5s (4.25, -3).

Brielle Mapanao is tied for 34th after her opening round of 73 (+1). Mapanao opened with a 35 (-1) on the front before a 38 (+2) on the back, amassing three birdies on the day.

Victoria Zheng is tied for 45th after her round of 74 (+2). Zheng enjoyed steady play throughout her opening 18, totaling 14 pars, including 13-straight to begin the day.

Lexanne Halama is tied for 74th after a 78 (+6) and Brielle Burns is tied for 94th after an 89 (+17).

Duke and North Carolina share the team lead at 9-under (279) while the Seminoles’ Lottie Woad leads the field individually at 7-under (65).

The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow morning, with tomorrow’s second round tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT.
