Junior Virgilio Paz of the University of Missouri men’s golf team finished day one at The Clerico in the top 15, leading the Tigers through 36 holes.
Paz started the day strong and raced to an early lead with a three-under 67. The junior moved into the red with a six-hole stretch that included five birdies as he was -4 through 11 holes before finishing the first round in second place at -3. Paz then followed up with a 76 in round two to sit in 12th place in the 72-golfer field at +3 overall.
Following Paz in the standings is Veikka Viskari (73-76) at +9, Mattias Varjun (70-81) and Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson (77-74) at +11 and Trent Mierl at +12 (75-77).
As a team, the Tigers are currently 10th in the 13-school field at +23.
Day two tees off on Tuesday morning with an 9 a.m. shotgun start.
