University of Missouri men’s golf improved its ranking by one spot on the final day of The Clerico, finishing ninth in its final tournament of the fall season.
Junior Virgilio Paz led the Tigers in scoring for his fourth-straight tournament, placing 11th overall in the 72-player field at +5. Paz posted a final-round tally of 72 as he continued his strong start to the campaign with a 216 over the three rounds (67-76-72).
Senior Mattias Varjun led Mizzou in scoring over the final day, posting a final-round 71. Varjun tallied four birdies on the day as he moved up 20 spots in the final rankings to finish 34th overall at +12 (70-81-71).
Veikka Viskari at +15 (73-76-76), Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson at +16 (77-74-75) and Trent Mierl (75-77-75) rounded out the performances for MU in Tulsa.
As a team, the Tigers placed ninth overall with a team score of +41. Nationally-ranked Northwestern claimed the title with a team score of +12, eight strokes ahead of host Oral Roberts. Mizzou’s tally of +13 on the final day was the fifth-best score of the 13 competing schools.
Mizzou returns to action in the second semester on Feb. 3, competing at the National Invitational Tournament.
