USC Takes Home East Lake Cup Trophy

Women’s Golf | October 30, 2024

ATLANTA – No. 4 USC picked up its fourth East Lake Cup trophy in program history as it bested LSU 3.5-1.5 on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the East Lake Golf Course.

The Trojans earned points from freshman Jasmine Koo, senior Xin (Cindy) Kou and sophomore Bailey Shoemaker as they picked up their third fall season win. This is USC’s fourth East Lake Cup trophy (2015, 2017, 2018 & 2024).

“This was a really satisfying team win to end the fall segment, because it was truly a complete team win one to five,” head coach Justin Silverstein said. “Everybody contributed in a big way, Cindy and Kylie got us over the hump yesterday and beat UCLA, and Catherine, Bailey and Jasmine carried us home today for our fourth East Lake cup title. We’re really pleased with the progress we’ve made this semester, and look forward to getting back to work in early January.”

The Women of Troy battled from start to finish, as they eventually found their way around the Tigers to beat them, winning three matches to one and tying another that did not finish. Koo picked up the first victory of the afternoon as she won the first hole before amassing a three-stroke lead by hole No. 4. LSU’s Donegan wouldn’t go down that easy as she tied the freshman on hole No. 11 before Koo won two of the final three holes to win it by two holes.

Kou took home another point for the Women of Troy, as she finished match play 2-0 with wins against UCLA and the Tigers. The senior had an easier time today, as it didn’t take 21 holes, as she won 4&2. During the round, Kou was five-under par with six birdies before she finalized the match on hole 16.

LSU picked up its only win of the afternoon, finishing simultaneously with Shoemaker’s win, which clinched the match. Similar to Kou, Shoemaker was dominant, winning hole No. 1 and never looking back. The sophomore went up by four after the front nine and extended it to six before finalizing the score 6&4.

Park was the lone Trojan not to finish as she overcame a 2-UP lead by the Tigers’ Tejedo before walking off the course in a tie.

USC finishes its fall season with three trophies and will take a short break before returning to action at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge on Sunday, Feb. 2, through Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes…
