Women’s Golf | November 13, 2024
LOS ANGELES – USC women’s golf inked a top 100 amateur in the World Amateur Rankings, signing Australia’s Sarah Hammett (Gold Coast, Australia/Somerset College); head coach Justin Silverstein announced Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Hammett currently ranks as the No. 79th player in the WAGR. She comes to the Women of Troy with three wins and 15 top-10 finishes.
“We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Sarah to the Trojan Family. She has put together an incredible golf résumé and has become one of the premier amateur golfers in the world at a young age,” Silverstein said. “We believe that Sarah’s talent and work ethic, combined with our player development system, will help her game grow to the levels she wants.”
Hammett is the first recruit from Oceania since USC signed two players from the region in 2017. That class featured Gabriela Ruffels (Sandringham, Victoria, Australia) and Amelia Garvey (Christchurch, New Zealand). Ruffels was one of the latest Trojans to enter the LPGA as she was a rookie on the circuit last season, while Garvey resides on the EPSON tour.
Hammett peaked at No. 63rd in the WAGR, as she secured back-to-back titles towards the end of the 2023 season with wins at the Katherine Kirk Classic and the Jack Newton International Junior Classic. During this calendar year, the Australian has posted four top-five finishes, including a third-place placement at the Toyota Junior World Cup, finishing two spots behind current USC freshman Jasmine Koo.
“Sarah is one of the most talented players that I’ve seen, and we’re excited for her to join our team next season,” assistant coach Beth Wu said. “As being one of the best from Australia, her accomplishments speak for themselves, and we believe that she can grow as a person and player during her time at USC. August can’t come soon enough. Fight On!”
Hammett joins a young core of players led by current junior Catherine Park and freshman Koo.
This program has had a ton of success with players from Sarah’s part of the world, and we can’t wait to bring her to Los Angeles in August,” Silverstein said.
