Cabot announced that its new Old Petty course, designed by Tom Doak, will officially open for preview play on August 1, 2025. The 18-hole course is Cabot’s second course in Scotland, created on the Castle Highlands property that Cabot first acquired in 2022 alongside Castle Stuart and is named after the Old Petty Church — built in 1839 — which sits adjacent to the property.
The preview window for Old Petty will last for two months, from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, 2025, offering a walking-only experience and open only to golfers with existing tee times at Castle Stuart. Green fees will run £190 for Old Petty, a steep discount from the £330 for Castle Stuart.
“Old Petty, guided by the vision of Tom Doak, will be a remarkable addition to the Highlands’ golfing landscape,” said Ben Cowan-Dewar, co-founder and CEO of Cabot. “Its design will harmonize beautifully with the natural surroundings, truly elevating the land it occupies.”
The course routing for Old Petty is unique, beginning and ending at the clubhouse, with the opening and closing holes criss-crossing fairways. The historic Castle Stuart, which celebrates its 400th year in 2025, can be seen from 13 of the 18 holes at Old Petty, immersing golfers in Scottish history throughout the run of the course. The driving range also doubles as a short course, an addition which has been successful at other properties in Cabot’s portfolio.
Tom Doak designed and routed Old Petty with long-time associate Clyde Johnson, who took the lead on the project. Chris Haspell, a well-known agronomist and shaper who worked on the original Castle Stuart links, also assisted on the project.
The grand opening for Old Petty will take place in Spring 2026.
