Koelle Tied for 10th After Opening Round Of Southwestern Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Behind three birdies on the back nine on Monday, Washington sophomore Finn Koelle sits tied for 10th at the Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club.

As a team, the Huskies finished the day in 13th place, posting a 15-over 299 collectively.

Koelle concluded his day with four birdies and three bogeys, carding a one-under 70. The German international either parred or birdied the final nine holes.

“It was a really good round from Finn today,” head coach Alan Murray said. “He started slow but battled hard and turned it around.”

Freshman Jack Murphy posted UW’s second-best score of the day, shooting his second-lowest round as a Dawg with a three-over 74 to tie for 35th. Fellow freshman Amilkar Bhana finished one shot above Murphy, tying for 42nd.

“Jack was our next best guy after Finn,” Murray said. “He struggled on the par fives but overall battled hard and he is starting to find his game. I was impressed by his demeanor out there.
Amilkar finished bogey-bogey, which took the shine off a steady round.”

Drew Warford posted a nine-over 80, while Jake Foley shot an 81, coming in tied for 68th and 71st, respectively.

The Huskies will tee off for round 2 beginning at 10:15 a.m. PT.
