Murphy, Foley Fire One-Under Second Rounds At Southwestern Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Washington men’s golf team got off to a strong start on Tuesday and rode the momentum to climb up the leaderboard at the Southwestern Invitational, finishing Round 2 at two-over par.

“Much better from the guys today,” head coach Alan Murray said. “We challenged them last night to show more, and they did that.”

Washington sits at +17 overall after opening with a 15-over first round. Finn Koelle and Jack Murphy are leading the Huskies heading into the final day, both tied for 20th place.

Murphy, who carded three birdies and two bogeys, finished one under par for the round to match Koelle, with the sophomore shooting 3-over on the day.

Jake Foley matched Murphy’s one-under performance to tie for the Huskies’ low round of the day, sinking four birdies to move into a tie for 56th.

Drew Warford had an up-and-down round, shooting +1 and tying for 58th. Amilkar Bhana finished 4-over for the day, tying for 53rd.

“Excellent rounds from Jake and Jack,” Murray said. “Drew had an unfortunate final hole, or he would have been under par as well.”

Washington will tee off the final round at 9:20 a.m. PT, paired with Cal and UCLA.

“Now the challenge will be to see if we can do it on consecutive days and finish strong,” Murray said.
