NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s golf returns to the course for its spring season this weekend to compete at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, on Feb. 2-4. The Commodores completed a fall season with three total top five finishes and a victory at the Carmel Cup in August. Vandy is coming off a third-place finish at The Ally to close out 2024.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted at the Grand Reserve Golf Club. The par-72 course will play at 6,305 yards.
“Just like that, it’s go time again,” said head coach Greg Allen. “I think we all came back recharged from the off-season and are excited to start the spring season.”
The field this week consists of seven teams ranked inside the CLIPPD Top 25. No. 15 Vanderbilt is joined by No. 2 Arkansas, No. 20 Auburn, Georgia Southern, Furman, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kent State, No. 16 LSU, No. 22 Michigan State, Minnesota, North Florida, North Texas, No. 9 Northwestern, No. 19 Ole Miss, Purdue, UNCW and UTSA.
“We’ve done a really good job the last few weeks controlling the things we can control,” said Allen. “The weather hasn’t been great, and half the team missed a week due to sickness, so, all in all, we are just ready to get out there.”
The Commodores will go with a familiar lineup this week. Juniors Tillie Claggett and Lynn Lim will lead the Dores alongside sophomores Ava Merrill and Sara Im, and freshman Angelina Tolentino. The lineup participated in all four team events this fall.
“We’ve talked about focusing on having good energy throughout the tournament and playing hard for each other,” said Allen. “It’s a talented group that works really hard and loves to compete. That’s a good combination.”
Vanderbilt will open up the event in a group with Arkansas, LSU, and Northwestern at 7 a.m. CT.
