Illini Men’s Golf in the Pros | Feb. 3, 2025


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Five former Illini are in action in the pro ranks this week, opening the first week of February by teeing off in Scottsdale, Arizona; Bogota, Colombia; Doha, Qatar; and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

PGA TOUR

Thomas Detry and Nick Hardy tee off this week at the PGA TOUR’s WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale.

Detry, currently 17th in the FedEx Cup rankings and No. 58 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), heads to the desert having made the cut in all four of his starts to open the 2025 season. He has posted a pair of top-15 finishes at The Sentry (T5) and the Farmers Insurance Open (T15). Last week, Detry recorded a T48 finish at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.


Hardy is set to make his fourth start of the season and is in search of his first made cut.

At the 2024 WM Phoenix Open, Detry finished tied for 28th while Hardy tied for 66th. Hardy also made the cut at the 2021 event and finished in a tie for 42nd.

DP WORLD TOUR

Adrien Dumont de Chassart will make his third start of the season on the DP World Tour, teeing off this week at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in Doha, Qatar.

He is coming off of a 24th-place finish last weekend at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, carding rounds of 69-70-72-69 to shoot an 8-under 280.

LIV GOLF LEAGUE

Thomas Pieters is set to make his debut with his new club, 4Aces GC, this week as the 2025 LIV Golf League schedule opens at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia.


Pieters, who played with captain Bubba Watson and Range Goats GC in his first two seasons on the tour, will compete this year alongside captain Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, and Harold Varner III of the 4Aces.

KORN FERRY TOUR

Luke Guthrie continues his resurgence on the Korn Ferry Tour this week, teeing off at the Astara Golf Championship in Bogota, Colombia.

Guthrie looks to play through to the weekend again after making the cut in each of his first two Korn Ferry Tour events of the season, including a T5 finish at The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at The Abaco Club.

This week marks his sixth time teeing off in the event. In 2017 and 2018, Guthrie finished T12 and T16, respectively, in his first two appearances at the Korn Ferry Tour’s stop at Country Club de Bogota.
