PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – No. 3 South Carolina finished fourth out west in a strong 16-team field at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge on Tuesday. It was the team’s first event of the spring portion of the schedule which will conclude with NCAA Regionals and the NCAA Championship in May.
Senior All-American Hannah Darling paced the team this week with a T-13th finish as she climbed 29 spots up the leaderboard the last two days thanks to back-to-back rounds of 70 (-1). Fellow senior Sophia Burnett finished T-15th as she led the team with a 2-under 69 today to jump 15 spots up the leaderboard.
Senior All-American Louise Rydqvist joined Darling and Burnett in the top-20 as she finished T-18th at 3-over par thru 54 holes. Rydqvist had the low round of the week for the team the opening 18 holes with a 3-under 68 that featured six birdies.
Highly touted freshman Eila Galitsky finished T-34th in her Gamecock debut at 6-over for the week. She shot 69 (-2) in the opening round, birding the final three holes, impressing in what was her first 18 holes in Garnet and Black.
Sophomore Vairana Heck finished T-48th at 9-over and fellow French sophomore Maylis Lamoure finished T-56th at 10-over competing as an indivudal this week.
The team will return home tomorrow and be back out on the course in two weeks in Melbourne, Fla. at the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 16-18).
