Vanderbilt Women's Golf | Second in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — Vanderbilt women’s golf tied for second place this week at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic. The Commodores finished Tuesday’s final round at 5-over-par, bringing the total for the tournament to 6-under. Arkansas, who went 15-under in the final round, won the competition at 19-under par.

“We got off to a slow start today and never got anything going,” said head coach Greg Allen. “Obviously, Arkansas played lights out.”

Tillie Claggett closed out the three-day tournament with an even-par round that included an eagle on hole No. 18, the third of the tournament for the Dores and second on the final hole. Angelina Tolentino also carded an even-par finish that included three birdies.

Lynn Lim, who ended the tournament at 1-under overall, tied for 11th individually with a 74 on Tuesday. Sara Im shot a 75 in the final round to tie for 18th individually. Ava Merrill – who also tied for 18th – notched a 76.

“Today was a really good learning opportunity for us,” said Allen. “Now, we need to get serious about letting today make us better. Overall, though, what a solid start to the spring season.”

Vanderbilt led the field for the first two rounds this week. The Commodores also tallied an event-leading number of pars (187) and eagles (3). The Dores averaged 4.80 strokes per par 5 hole.

The Commodores will return to the course on February 13th to compete at The Match at Ohoopee vs. Georgia Southern.
