WAIMEA, Hawaii – After two rounds of play, the Washington men’s golf team sits in 17th at the Amer Ari at Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club.
The huskies got off to a sluggish start before partially rebounding, ending the day one-under par for the day, two-under overall for the tournament.
“We had the chance to turn it into a really good team round but we just aren’t ruthless enough,” Head coach Allan Murray said. “We threw it into reverse when we could have hit the gas pedal.”
Jack Murphy leads the Dawgs on the leaderboard, tied for 53rd after tallying a three-under second round. Finn Koelle fired a Husky-best four-under 68, sitting tied for 68th at one-under overall.
“Solid rounds from Finn and Jack today” said Murray, “Finn was really steady all day and apart from a couple of mistakes played a good round of golf. Jack was two-over through three holes and got it turned around.”
Drew Warford ended the day tied for 87th after shooting one-over for the day, two-over for the tournament. Brock Maulding shot five-over Friday and is tied for 94th, while Abel Derksen struggled through a 10-over second round and is tied for 114th.
“One more round before we leave here,” concluded Murray. “It’s important we come away from here with a really good team round so we need to be at it tomorrow.”
The third round will begin with another shotgun start to finish off the Amer Ari with Washington teeing off at 9:30 a.m. PT, paired with Hawaii-Hilo, San Jose State and Osaka Gakuin (Japan).
