THIS WEEK
The No. 16 Utah Men’s Golf team is back in action this week, heading to Kaua’i for the John Burns Intercollegiate. The tournament is the seventh-longest running collegiate men’s tournament in the country. The Utes have competed in the tournament for eight of the last ten seasons and are appearing for the fourth straight time. During this span, the best team performance came in Feb. 2022, finishing in third while shooting 11 strokes under par. Last season, both Braxton Watts and Sergio Jimenez recorded top 10 placements on the individual leaderboard as the Utes finished in seventh place.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah put together a historical fall season that included five tournaments, two first-place team titles, two individual crowns, and five top 5 individual finishes. To open the season the Utes shattered the 54-hole school record at the Palouse Collegiate, totaling a score of 800 to help claim their first title since Feb. 2021. Additionally, Jimenez grabbed his first collegiate crown after starting the season off with a 10-under 61 to earn himself the lowest 18-hole individual score in Utah golf history. In the ensuing tournament, Utah took home another first-place title by 14 strokes at The Tindall Invitational. It was the first time in school history that Utah won back-to-back tournaments in a season. Davis Johnson secured a share of first place with an 11-under 202 to grab his first career title, marking the fourth time in school history that multiple Utes had won a regular-season title in the same season. The Utes finished sixth at the Mark Simpson Invitational in Erie, Colorado before finishing seventh at their first ever Big 12 Match Play in Lubbock, Texas. To close out the fall, competed in The Preserve Collegiate. The Utes remained consistent throughout the tournament, posting scores no more than just two strokes apart in each round. The team finished in seventh while Brandon Robison recorded his third top 10 finish of the fall.
IN THE RANKS
The Utes have climbed the ranks over the course of the season, sliding into the No. 16 spot in the latest NCAA Scoreboard. The Utes had reached their highest ranking in program history earlier in the fall, climbing to No. 10. The Utes are…
