WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue sophomore Sam Easterbrook was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week following his victory in the prestigious Puerto Rico Classic earlier this week.

Easterbrook wins the honor for the first time in his career.

The native of England had an outstanding week en route to his first career victory, shooting a 54-hole total of 15-under par 201 (67-69-65). The 201 tied for the third-lowest tournament score in school history and the fifth-lowest score in Puerto Rico Classic history. He led the field in birdies (20) and par-3 scoring (-5) while recording no holes of double bogey or worse.

He would birdie the final hole for his final-round 65 to defeat teammate Kent Hsiao by one shot. He became the sixth player in school history with three rounds in the 60s in the same tournament.

For the season, Easterbrook is averaging 71.19 strokes per round, currently good for fifth on the Purdue single-season list. He has posted 11 rounds of par or better and owns five top-20 finishes in seven events this season.
