LIHUE, Hawaii (Feb. 14, 2025) – Senior Franklin Lydra fired a two-under, 68, to lead Washington State men’s golf during the second round of the John Burns Intercollegiate Friday, played at the par-70, 7,098-yard Ocean Course at Hokuala.
The Cougars improved by 12 strokes over Thursday’s opening round, shooting a 2-over, 282, Friday and now sit 14th overall. Utah continues to lead the field at 15-under.
Lydra, who opened the tournament Thursday at 1-over, carded four birdies and a double bogey on his Friday round, including three birdies against no bogeys on the front side. Lydra’s 68 pushed him up four spots and into 20th overall in the field as he sits at 1-under, 139.
Freshman Dylan Burcham had the biggest jump for WSU from Round 1 to Round 2 as he improved seven shots with an even-par 70 on Friday. Burcham’s round included three birdies and three bogeys as he rose 10 spots to finish Friday in 72nd position, at 7-over, 147.
After an opening round of 78 Thursday, junior Sam Renner rebounded with a 1-over, 71, Friday. Renner’s card included three birdies against four bogeys as he shot a 2-under, 33, on the back 9. Renner sits at 9-over, 149 after two rounds, tied for 84th overall.
Redshirt senior Drayton Joseph improved by two strokes over Thursday’s round as he finished Friday with a 3-over, 73. Joseph was three over after his first six holes before shooting par the rest of the way as he finished his first 36 holes at 8-over, 148, tied for 77th.
Redshirt-sophomore Ben Borgida, who opened Thursday with a 1-over, 71, shot a 6-over 76 Friday and is tied for 72nd overall at 7-over, 147.
Play concludes at the John Burns Intercollegiate with a final 18 holes Saturday in a shotgun start beginning at 11 a.m. PT.
