LIHUE, Hawaii (Feb. 15, 2025) – Junior Sam Renner shot an even-par, 70, to lead Washington State during the final round at the John Burns Intercollegiate Saturday, played at the par-70, 7,098-yard Ocean Course at Hokuala.
The Cougars finished the three-day event with a final round, 290, 10-over par, to finish 15th overall at 26-over, 866. Utah and UNLV tied for the team title at 22-under-par, 818, 12 strokes ahead of Santa Clara.
Renner, who went 1-over par during the final two rounds, shot an even-par, 70, a round which included five birdies and five bogeys. The John Burns Intercollegiate marks just the second of six events this season that Renner has not finished under par, ending at +9, 219, tied for 66th.
Senior Franklin Lydra, WSU’s second-round leader, shot a 9-over, 79, Saturday to finish the 54-hole event at 8-over, 218, tied for 62nd. Lydra led WSU along with redshirt-sophomore Ben Borgida, whose final-round of 1-over, 71, included five birdies as he posted 1-over, 71’s, in both the first and third rounds.
Redshirt senior Drayton Joseph shot a final round 72 on Saturday, ending the 54-hole tournament at 10-over, 220, tied for 70th overall. Freshman Dylan Burcham sandwiched 7-over, 77’s around Saturday’s round of even-par, 70, to finish at 14-over, 224, tied for 86th overall.
The Cougars waste no time before they are back in action at The Prestige, hosted by UC Davis and played at the PGA West Greg Norman Course in La Quinta, Calif. beginning Monday, Feb. 17.
