CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women’s golf begins its spring competition schedule at the Spartan Suncoast Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Michigan State. The event will be held at the Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Fla., from Sunday, Feb. 16 to Monday, Feb. 17.
THE SETTING
Palm Aire Country Club is a prestigious equity member-owned private club founded in 1957. The Champions Course, a Dick Wilson masterpiece, opened in 1957 under the name “Desoto Lakes”. Over the years, the Champions Course has been shaped by various architects, with its most recent redesign by Mike Benkusky in 2021. Our other course, the Lakes Course, was finished in 1981 and showcases the design excellence of Joe Lee.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
This three-day tournament begins with a shotgun start on Saturday at 7:15 a.m. CT, featuring 36 holes of continuous play. The final round on Monday will feature also a shotgun start at 7:15 a.m. CT, followed by an awards ceremony at the end of the tournament. This 54-hole competition is set up for a par 72 and will play 6,191 yards.
THE FIELD
In addition to the Illini, the 15-team field includes: College of Charleston, FIU, Georgia Southern, Grand Valley State, Kent State, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Purdue.
