HUMBLE, Texas – Fighting Illini women’s golf ended the first two rounds of The Chevron Collegiate tied for 10th after carding a 36-hole team total of 572 (-4) today at the Golf Club of Houston.

After opening the tournament with a team total of 291 (+3), the Orange and Blue improved by 10 strokes in the second round, firing a team total of 281 (-7). The 7-under team round is tied for the ninth-lowest round score in program history.

Victoria Zheng is the leading Illinois golfer in the tournament, finishing the first day tied for 15th after rounds of 72 (E) and 68 (-4). Zheng tallied four birdies on the day, including an eagle on No. 8 in the second round. Her scoring average of 4.38 (-5) on par 5s is tied for the third-lowest mark among the field and she is just one of three players that recorded an eagle during play today.

Brielle Mapanao opened the event with a 2-over 74 but rebounded in style with a 3-under 69 to end the day tied for 30th. Mapanao birdied five times during her final 18 to post her second round under 70 this season.

Yurang Li is also tied for 30th after firing rounds of 71 (-1) and 72 (E). Li’s 29 pars today were the third-most among the field.

Lexanne Halama is tied for 49th following rounds of 74 (+2) and 72 (E), while Anna Ritter is tied for 56th after recording rounds of 74 (+1) and 73 (+2). Ritter’s 4.50 (-4) on par 5s was tied for the fifth-lowest mark on the course today.

Texas A&M holds the team lead at 23-under (553) and the Aggies’ Vanessa Borovilos has the individual lead at 10-under (134).

The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow morning, with the third and final round’s shotgun start beginning at 8:00 a.m. CT.
