Pillard Leads Terps at Briar's Creek


JOHN’S ISLAND, S.C. — Freshman Anna Pillard picked up her second top 10 finish of the year to lead the Maryland women’s golf team at the Briar’s Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek Tuesday.

The Terrapins played in the first round Monday, then were delayed to Tuesday due to weather. The event was shortened to 36 holes instead of 54.

Pillard tied for seventh with a score of 142 (68-74), which was -2 overall. She birdied or parred 32 of the 36 holes. Freshman Chananyu Chowiwattana tied for 32nd with a score of 148 (76-72), which was +4 overall. 

Junior Nicha Kanpai tied for 42nd with a score of 150 (74-76). Senior Panassaya Somchit shot a 151 (74-77) while competing as an individual. Graduate student Karla Elena Vazquez Setzer and senior Daniela Burgos Ortego both earned scores of 153. 

As a team, the Terrapins finished tied for 11th of 17 teams with a score of 592 (293-299), which was +16. 

Next, the Terps will compete in the Clemson Invitational March 28-30 in Clemson, S.C.
