Illini Finish Second, Halama Tied for Fifth, at Florida State Match Up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Fighting Illini women’s golf finished the Florida State Match Up in second place at 20-over (884) after carding a third round 298 (+10) today at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.

Lexanne Halama finished tied for fifth, her second top 10 of the season, at 3-over (219) after her final round of 74 (+2). Halama tallied an eagle on No. 4 and picked up a birdie on No. 14. The senior posted a team-best 4.50 (-6) on par 5s, which ranked tied-for-third-lowest in the tournament. Halama’s 35 pars over the three days also led the team and were also tied-for-third-most among the field.

Victoria Zheng recorded her third top 10 of the season, and second-straight, finishing tied for 7th after her third round of 75 (+3). Zheng rolled in three birdies during the final round to give her a 54-hole total of 11, which led the Illini. 

Anna Ritter placed tied for 11th at 6-over (222), firing a third round 75 (+3). Ritter tallied three birdies on the back nine to finish the event with eight total. The junior, along with Zheng, posted a team-best 4.10 (+3) scoring average on par 4s.

Yurang Li placed tied for 23rd after a third round 74 (+2) and Brielle Mapanao finished tied for 59th after her final round of 79 (+7).

Erica Lee, competing individually, placed tied for 11th, the second-highest finish by an individual competitor. Lee fired a 74 (+2) in the final round and ended the Florida State Match Up with a tournament-best 2.83 (-2) scoring average on par 3s.

Hosts Florida State takes home the team title at 22-under (842) and the Seminoles’ Mirabel Ting claimed individual honors at 16-under.

The Fighting Illini will be back in action on April 6 when they begin play at the Boilermaker Spring Classic at Ackerman-Allen Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
