#3 Men’s Golf in 2nd Headed into Day Two

PALM CITY, Fla. — Forward thinking is the name of the game. After a detour in Pauma Valley, Men’s Golf bounced back and currently sits in second place at the Valspar Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club. The team tees off for the final round tomorrow morning with Texas, Oklahoma, and Auburn. 

After the first two rounds, the Maroon and Gold sit at 17-under with Fifa Laopakdee and Connor Williams leading the charge at 5-under. Both sophomores are currently tied for tenth. Laopakdee had a stretch of five birdies in five holes on his front nine in round two and had at least six birdies in each round. Williams played a clean round one with four birdies and only one double to finish 2-under. 

Following closely behind is Michael Mjaaseth who sits in sixteenth at 4-under. He is tied for fifth for the lowest par-4 scoring average and netted the lone eagle by a Sun Devil in round two. Seniors Josele Ballester and Preston Summerhays are both 1-under and both sit in the top 10 for par-3 scoring average. 

The team leads the par-3 scoring average by five strokes and sits in second for par-4 average. ASU also has the second most birdies of the whole field at 47.
