Bears Off To Strong Start At Silverado Invitational

Liu Tied For 6th After First Round

NAPA – Junior Adora Liu shot a 1-under par 71 and the California women’s golf team placed three players in the top-15 after the first round of the Silverado Showdown on Monday at Silverado Country Club & Resort.

Liu is in a tie for sixth place individually after the first 18 holes on the par-72, 6,207-yard South course. Senior Kaylyn Noh and sophomore Constance Fouillet each fired an even-par 72 to place in a tie for 14th heading into Tuesday’s second round.

The Golden Bears are in fourth place out of 16 teams after shooting 3-over par 291 as a team Monday. No. 10 Northwestern and Cal State Fullerton are tied for the first-round lead at minus-1 287.

“We kept the ball in play on a challenging golf course, and approach shots were in a tight dispersion pattern into the greens,” Cal head coach Sofie Aagaard said. “We have some tidying up for tomorrow’s round to be done to lessen the amount of bogeys. We have a couple of strategy changes to make as well as some better chipping when missing the greens.”

Starting on the 10th hole, Liu came out blistering, converting birdies on each of her first three holes and four of the first six to find herself at 4-under par. She fought through a few bogeys on the back-nine and added a birdie on No. 8 before closing her round at 71.

Fouillet birdied each of her final two holes and Noh did the same on her final hole to get to even-par.

Cal tees off on the first hole for the second round Tuesday beginning at 8:42 a.m.
