Fouillet Moves Up Leader Board With 2-Under 70
NAPA – Sophomore Constance Fouillet shot a 2-under 70 and is four strokes off the lead and the California women’s golf team remains in fourth place after the second round of the Silverado Showdown.
Fouillet recorded her team-best 11th round of par or better this season and is 2-under overall heading into Wednesday’s final round at Silverado Country Club & Resort.
After carding an even-par 70 during Monday’s opening round, Fouillet finished Tuesday with a flourish – registering birdies on each of the two final holes and three of the last four. Four of her six birdies came on the back nine.
Foullet is in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard, four shots behind tournament leader Lauryn Nguyen on Northwestern.
Junior Adora Liu shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday and is at even-par for the tournament, tied for 11th place. Senior Kaylyn Noh is at 3-over and tied for 24th.
“Another steady round for the Bears today,” Cal head coach Sofie Aagaard said. “The course was played a little more challenging with hole locations in tight spots on the greens. We started on the front nine today – statistically the higher scoring nine – and found that we got off to a good start. We had energy left in the tank for the last nine holes and made some birdies coming down the stretch to climb the leaderboard in the end. The Bears stayed in it the whole day, didn’t give up and were able to bounce back from some front nine bogeys.”
The Golden Bears went 4-over as a team Tuesday after a 3-over opening round. At 7-over for the tournament, Cal is solidly in fourth – five shots ahead of fifth-place Cal State Fullerton. USC leads the event at even-par overall.
The Bears tee off for Wednesday’s final round at 8:30 a.m. PT.
