WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Fighting Illini women’s golf fired a final round 298 (+10) to finish as team champions at the Boilermaker Spring Classic, today at Ackerman-Allen Course.
“I’m excited for the team as we have made significant strides this spring,” head coach Renee Slone said. “We have put ourselves in some excellent positions the last couple of tournaments and learned from those experiences. We played well yesterday afternoon especially on the back nine.
“The team remained resilient throughout today’s challenging conditions. We’re looking forward to building on these successes as we head into the postseason.”
Illinois captures its first team crown since winning the 2023 Big Ten Championships at Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh.
Anna Ritter recorded a career-best fourth-place finish at 1-under (215) thanks to her final round 73 (+1). Ritter ended the tournament leading the team in par 3 scoring average (-1, 2.92) and par 4 scoring average (E, 4.00), while also leading the field with 42 pars over the two days. of play.
Yurang Li also tallied the best finish of her career at tied for ninth. Li posted a final round 78 (+6) to finish at 4-over (220). She rolled in a team-best nine birdies during the tournament.
Victoria Zheng ended the event tied for 16th at 6-over (222) after her third round of 74 (+2). Lexanne Halama finishes tied for 18th at 7-over (223) following her final round 76 (+4). Brielle Mapanao placed tied for 48th at 14-over (230), firing a 75 (+3) to end the tournament, her lowest round at the Boilermaker Spring Classic.
Erica Lee, competing individually, finished tied for 28th at 9-over (225) after carding a final round 77 (+5).
Illinois State’s Elise Fennell captured individual honors at 7-under (209).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action on Friday, April 18, when they begin play at the Big Ten Championships at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md.
