Cougars Complete Second Round at El Macero Classic


DAVIS, Calif. (April 12, 2025) – Washington State men’s golf shot an 11-over, 299 Saturday and remain in 12th place following two rounds at the 2025 El Macero Classic, played at the par 72, 7,127-yard El Macero Country Club.
 
After the rounds, the Cougars sit at 20-over, 596, alone in 12th place. Saint Mary’s, the lone team to shoot under par Saturday at -4, leads the field with a 36-hole total of -9, 567, five shots ahead of first-round leader UC San Diego.
 
For the second-straight day, junior Sam Renner led the Cougars as he fired an even-par 72 Saturday. Renner’s round included four birdies and four bogeys as he rebounded from back-to-back bogeys to start the day. Renner’s two-round score of 1-under, 143, ties him for 12th overall. Senior Franklin Lydra finished his second round a 3-over, 75. Lydra began his day six over through four holes but rebounded the rest of the way, collecting three birdies and 10 pars against one bogey to end his 36 holes at 4-over,, 148, tied for 38th.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Ben Borgida posted a 5-over, 77, Saturday and sits at 8-over, 152 through two rounds, tied for 60th. Starting on the back, Borgida was 5-over through five holes but like Lydra, found his rhythm after that, playing par golf over his final 13 holes. Freshman Tate Bruggeman improved by four strokes over his first round as he shot 75 Saturday and is tied for 70th overall at 10-over, 154.
 
Redshirt-senior Drayton Joseph matched his first-round score with a 6-over, 78, Saturday, a round that featured just one birdie. Drayton’s two-day total of 12-over, 156, has him alone in 76th place. Freshman Garrett Harrison, playing as an individual, shot a 6-over, 78, Saturday, a round highlighted by an eagle-3 on the par-5 15th hole. It was the lone eagle of the day for the Cougars.
 
Final round play at the El Macero Classic concludes Sunday, with the Cougars teeing off the back beginning at 9:42 a.m.
