Faldo Design, led by Sir Nick Faldo, has partnered with Himalayas Golf to launch Golf in Small Spaces, an initiative with the goal of reimagining how golf is played and bringing it to more people.
The partnership plans to develop compact golf facilities suitable for urban environments and areas with restricted land availability. Golf in Small Spaces will offer different grassing options, such as real grass, synthetic turf or a hybrid of the two. Other key elements of the initiative include single or multiple short holes with central tee boxes; short courses with “backyard-style” layouts inspired by Dave Pelz; premium putting course designs that offer enhanced playability; smaller layouts of 3, 6, 9 or 12 holes; indoor practice areas with simulators, putting greens and short game zones for year-round practice and instruction; and smart driving ranges with design elements such as water recirculation and automatic ball collection.
“Traditional golf takes a long time, requires a lot of land, and can be intimidating for newcomers,” said Paul Jansen, president of Himalayas Golf. “‘Golf in Small Spaces’ offers an accessible alternative – shorter formats that need less space and it helps players build skills. It’s about making the game more inviting and sustainable for everyone.”
Multiple projects around the country have already been completed, and Himalayas Golf is currently accepting course proposals on their website.
