Wildcats Have an Excellent Start to Big 12 Championship

Arizona women’s golf is tied for the lead after round one of the Big 12 Championship. Carolina Melgrati at 2-under par is also tied for the individual lead. A great way to start the tournament as they are three shots ahead of second place.

Melgrati was 3-under par through nine holes and she leads the field in par four scoring average. Nena Wongthanvimok is one shot behind Melgrati after carding a 69 to move into a tie for fourth. She had four birdies on her round with three coming on the back nine.

Charlotte Back is the third Wildcat inside the top ten after 18 holes with a 71 today. She was 1-under par on the front nine but couldn’t find a birdie on the back nine. Julia Misemer is tied for 27th at 3-over par. She shot 37s on both the front and back nine. Lilas Pinthier is tied for 49th at 6-over par.

As a team the Wildcats had the second best par four and par five scoring averages out of the 14 teams. In addition, they had the second most birdies and the least amount of bogeys which is a recipe for success.
