Sixth-Seeded Cal To Meet No. 3 Virginia In First Round
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The California women’s golf team had two individuals place in the top 10 and the Golden Bears advanced to the match play round of the 2025 ACC Championship on Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club.
Cal tied for fifth place as a team at the end of stroke play. The top six of the 15 teams participating earned a spot in match play, which begins Friday morning. As a result of tiebreaking protocol, the Bears are the No. 6 seed for match play and will meet No. 3 Virginia at 7:30 a.m. ET in the first round.
Senior Kaylyn Noh tied for fifth individually at 2-under par at the end of stroke play while sophomore Constance Fouillet tied for seventh at 1-under.
Cal and North Carolina each finished stroke play at 16-over par. If the Bears defeat Virginia, they would meet No. 2 Florida State in the semifinals later on Friday.
“We managed the difficulty of this course well throughout the 54 holes of stroke play,” Cal head coach Sofie Aagaard said. “Just as we lost some strokes on some of the tougher holes, we also were able to capitalize on the par 5s with birdies.”
Noh carded four birdies during the back-nine and finished the round at 2-under after beginning the day at even-par. Junior Adora Liu had a torrid front-nine with five birdies – including three in a row – and finished Thursday’s round at even-par.
Virginia is coached by Cal alum Ria Scott.
“This is a great championship course and match play will be exciting,” Aagaard said. “It will be a tough match for both teams, and we are eager to compete and try to make the semifinals.”
