Kanpai Qualifies for US Open


SPRINGFIELD, VA — Junior Nicha Kanpai of the Maryland women’s golf team won a qualifying event for the US Open presented by Ally Wednesday at the Springfield Golf & Country Club in Springfield, Va.

Kanpai won the event with a score of 143 (73-70), which was +1. The top two finishers in the event qualified for the US Open, which will be played May 29-June 1 at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis.


Kanpai earned an individual bid to NCAA Regionals and will compete in the Charlottesville Regional May 5-7 at the Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Va.
 

Kanpai has four top 10 finishes this year, including a win at the Cougar Classic. Kanpai is a two-time All-Big Ten honoree. 

This will be Kanpai’s third appearance in NCAA Regionals. Last year, Kanpai tied for 24th at the Bryan Regional in Bryan, Texas with her score of 221 (77-71-73), which was +5.
