PULLMAN, Wash. (April 30, 2025) – Washington State junior Sam Renner was selected to play in the 2025 NCAA Men’s Golf Division I Bremerton Regional, May 12-14, 2025, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
Renner is just the fourth WSU men’s golfer to play in an NCAA Regional as an individual, the most recent being Pono Yanagi, who competed in the 2023 Morgan Hill Regional. Renner joins a select group of Cougar golfers who have participated in an NCAA Regional, along with Yanagi, Ryan Witz (2006) and current WSU Women’s Golf Head Coach Kevin Tucker (2009, 2010).
“This is an exciting day for program. Sam has had a great year, and this is another opportunity for him to keep it going,” said WSU Head Coach Dustin White. “His level of play this year has been tremendous and I’m eager to see him compete against the best players in the country. And the fact that he gets to play here in the Northwest is a big deal. We’re excited to start prepping and make the most an opportunity to earn a spot in the National Championship.”
Renner is enjoying a record-break season in 2024-25. The Bend, Ore. native currently holds a 70.45 season scoring average, which ranks No. 1 all-time at WSU by more than half a stroke. In the fall, he posted back-to-back tournament victories, the first time in program history a player has captured back-to-back medalist honors, at the Badger Invitational and Oregon State Invitational, respectively. He ended his fall campaign with nine-straight rounds under par and a 69.53 scoring average in five tournaments.
Additionally, Renner has shot par-or-better in 24 of his 33 rounds, including 14 rounds in the 60’s, while posting five Top-10 and eight Top-25 finishes entering the NCAA Championships. In the most recent national rankings, Renner sits at No. 99.
Renner will be heading to the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. to play in the NCAA Bremerton Regional, hosted by the University of Washington.
