Franks Named to SEC Community Service Team – University of South Carolina Athletics

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior All-American Nathan Franks was named to the SEC Community Service Team the league office announced on Friday with the release of their annual SEC Men’s Golf Awards.

Franks, a four-year starter for the Gamecocks, led the team in community service hours this year. He’s volunteered his time for a number of local initiatives, primarily helping sort donations at the Harvest Hope Food Bank, whose mission is to eliminate hunger and food insecurity in South Carolina. The non-profit organization rescues nutritious food from stores throughout the state and distributes it to food pantries, shelters and soup kitchens.

Franks has been active in Cocky’s All Sports Camp as well as a Thanksgiving donation drive for the Gamecock Pantry. Additionally, he helped with Move-in USC for new freshmen students on campus.

On the course, his 70.67 score average ranks second on the team behind only redshirt junior Frankie Harris. His 18 rounds of par or better lead the team and his five top-20 finishes in 10 starts are tied with Harris for the team lead. Franks enters postseason play next week with a 71.58 career scoring average, which sits third-lowest in school history behind only former All-Americans Ryan Hall (70.66) and Scott Stevens (71.57).

The Roebuck, S.C. native is making his PGA TOUR debut this week as an amateur at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic. He shot 67 (-4) in the opening round yesterday and is on pace to make the cut, which currently sits at 1-under heading into the late afternoon wave of tee times.

The No. 20 Gamecocks begin play as the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Bremerton Regional on Monday. Teams will play 54-holes of stroke play over the course of three days with the top-five teams advancing to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, Calif. May 23-28. Carolina is seeking its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2019 next week at Golf Mountain Golf Club.
