SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Caroline Powers Ellis has resigned as the University of Notre Dame women’s golf head coach, as announced by the University Friday evening.
“It has been an honor to lead the Notre Dame Women’s Golf Team these past three years,” Powers Ellis said as she reflected on her time at Notre Dame. “I am forever grateful for this university and for the players that I have been lucky to work with and learn from.
I have made the decision to step away from coaching right now in order to be at home with my two sons more. I love coaching and helping young women, but am confident this is the right choice for our family right now.”
For the past three seasons, Powers Ellis has led the women’s program to success, including seven top-10 team finishes in 2024-25, finishing as high as third at the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate in the spring of ‘25.
Powers Ellis led the team to 11 top-five team finishes during her tenure, including a pair of runners-up scores in 2024 and 2023, and an individual NCAA Regional Champion. In 2024, Powers Ellis guided Lauren Beaudreau to the NCAA Championships after the graduate senior earned a spot as an individual in the NCAA East Lansing Regional. There, Beaudreau registered a score of 204(-12) to earn the individual title and a berth in the NCAA Championships where she would go on to finish 64th overall behind a 224(+8) score. Her career at Notre Dame also included three individual tournament winners in Montgomery Ferreira (2022 Badger Invitational) and Beaudreau (2024 The Bruzzy & 2024 NCAA Regional).
Since Powers Ellis arrived on campus, the team’s stroke average dropped eight shots and saw the 2024 team boast the top grade point average among all Notre Dame teams. She also co-created the ‘Looper’ mentorship program alongside Associate Head Coach Kari Bellville, focused on connecting program alumni with the current student-athletes.
“I want to thank John Handrigan, Jim Fraleigh, Nick Siergiej, Jack Swarbrick, Pete Bevacqua, and all of the support staff, alumni and donors for their unwavering commitment to ND Golf,” Powers Ellis added. “I am proud of this team’s growth and I know the future is extremely bright. Notre Dame is truly a special place and I will always be rooting for Irish success.”
“Caroline is leaving the program better than she found it and I’m appreciative of her hard work and commitment to the success of Notre Dame Golf,” Handrigan said. “She…
