North Carolina’s David Ford is the winner of the 2025 Jack Nicklaus Award, presented to the National Player of the Year, in honor of the 18-time major champion.
It is Ford’s second National Player-of-the-Year Award this season. He won the Fred Haskins Award and was one of three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award.
Nicklaus presented Ford the award Sunday morning prior to the final round of the Memorial, the PGA Tour event hosted by the legendary Hall of Famer.
Ford is the first Tar Heel to win the Nicklaus Award, which has been given to the Player of the Year annually beginning in 1988.
Other recipients include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, David Duval, Justin Leonard, Stewart Cink, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay. Ludvig Aberg won two years ago and Jackson Koivun was the winner in 2024.
Ford has also earned first-team All-America and All-PING/East Region honors this season and earned his PGA Card for 2025 and 2026 by finishing first in the PGA TOUR University standings.
He finished the year No. 1 in the NCAA’s rankings and led the country in wins and scoring average. The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native set UNC single-season records for wins (5), scoring (68.78), score to par (-89), score to par per round (-2.47) and rounds in the 60s (25).
