KemperSports to manage historic McHenry Golf Club

KemperSports has been selected to manage McHenry Golf Club, a historic 18-hole private club located 55 miles northwest of Chicago in McHenry, Illinois.

The agreement marks the company’s 12th property in the Chicago market and reflects its continued momentum in 2025. KemperSports will oversee golf course enhancements, membership growth and overall member engagement at the club.

“I’m very excited to partner with KemperSports,” said club owner Ed Hinz. “As a Chicago-based company, they understand the market well and have the tools needed to lead McHenry Golf Club into the future.”

Founded in 1922, McHenry Golf Club holds a unique place in golf history as the birthplace of the first metal wood. Longtime head professional Vale Adams, who served from 1962 to 1981, tested the club developed by his son, Gary Adams, the founder of TaylorMade Golf. The company was headquartered in McHenry until the late 1980s, when it relocated to Carlsbad, California.

“McHenry Golf Club has a great history as one of the most influential clubs in golf,” said Steve Skinner, CEO of KemperSports. “We look forward to working with the ownership group to celebrate the history while leading the club into the next generation.”

The announcement comes amid a strong year for KemperSports. The company recently expanded its portfolio through a partnership with Touchstone Golf, adding more than 40 properties.
