NORMAN, Okla. – On Tuesday, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced that the Vanderbilt men’s golf team had five student-athletes named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for NCAA Division I for the 2024-25 season.
John Broderick, Chase Nevins, Gordon Sargent, Jackson Van Paris and Wells Williams were each selected to the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar team. Vanderbilt was one of 24 schools nationally and one of three SEC programs to have five or more GCAA All-America Scholars selections in 2024-25.
Sargent earned his third career GCAA All-America Scholar honor. He becomes the third Commodore to earn the distinction three times, joining Matthew Riedel (’21, ’23, ’24) and Cole Sherwood (’22, ’23, ’24). Van Paris is the 10th student-athlete in program history to be selected two or more times. Additionally, it is the first honor for Broderick, Nevins and Williams.
It is the second-straight season that the Commodores have had five GCAA All-America Scholars. Last year, Vanderbilt became the first program in NCAA Division I men’s golf history to have five student-athletes named both a PING All-American and All-America Scholar by the GCAA in the same season, as Sargent, Van Paris, William Moll, Matthew Riedel and Cole Sherwood earned the distinctions.
Under the direction of Thomas F. Roush, M.D., and Family Vanderbilt Men’s Golf Head Coach Scott Limbaugh, Vandy has had 17 student-athletes earn a total of 30 GCAA All-America Scholar selections.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate’s degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
All five of Vanderbilt’s GCAA All-America Scholars were also named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, where they were joined by teammates Ben Loomis and Rowan Sullivan. In June, Sargent, Van Paris and Williams were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
