Chan, Kehrer named UW’s Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners

MADISON, Wis.Chloe Chan from the Wisconsin women’s golf team and Anthony Kehrer from the Badger men’s hockey program are UW’s Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners, the Conference announced on Thursday.

These standouts were chosen from a group of 48 student-athletes at Wisconsin, one member of each varsity sports team on campus, who were chosen as a Sportsmanship Award honoree. Two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners are selected from each Big Ten institution. The Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and demonstrate good citizenship outside the sports-competition setting.

Chan, a two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) At-Large Academic All-District, three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honoree and Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar, also excelled on the course as a top-3 finisher for UW in each spring tournament this past season, including a runner-up result at the Chattanooga Classic in Tennessee.

She led the Badgers with a 73.81 scoring average her senior year, helping her to a 74.25 career scoring average during her four years at Wisconsin.

A native of Hong Kong, Chan majored in geography & cartography as well as geographic information systems

Kehrer wrapped up his Badger career this past season as a fifth-year defenseman and alternate captain for Badger men’s hockey. He anchored UW’s defense as a physical and consistent presence throughout the season and his career, but did so with great sportsmanship and ethical behavior with opponents, his teammates and the public.

He was voted the team’s Fenton Kelsey Jr.-Mike Richter Most Competitive Player, the Dr. Joseph Coyne-Joe Pavelski Most Consistent Player and the Suter Family Unsung Hero award by his teammates.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native completed his Badger career with five goals and 32 points in 165 games played from the blue line. He graduated with a degree in personal finance and studied real estate for his master’s degree.
