GOTHENBURG, Sweden — The best summer in Stanford women’s golf history continued with Meja Örtengren taking home the title at the Ladies European Tour Hills Open on Sunday.

She finished below par in all three rounds. She finished Saturday’s round tied for the lead at 5-under and won the tournament outright after shooting a 1-under 70 in the final round on Sunday afternoon.

Örtengren was able to secure the top spot after getting past some of the best international competitors. She won over countrywoman Lisa Pettersson and Germany’s Leonie Harm by two shots. She also topped past Annika Award winner and Swede Ingrid Lindblad.

She becomes the third amateur to win on the Ladies European Tour since 2022, joining Lottie Woad and Jana Melichova.

Few golfers in the country had a better season than Örtengren as a freshman for Stanford. She was named the ACC and WGCA Freshman of the Year after posting an impressive 70.11 scoring average, fourth best in Stanford history. She was at par or better in 24 of her 28 rounds and won her first collegiate tournament at the San Diego State Classic.

Örtengren becomes the third Cardinal to win a significant championship this summer. Paula Martín Sampedro won The Women’s Amateur and European Ladies’ Amateur titles this summer. Megha Ganne also won the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Örtengren, who finished sixth in the European Ladies Amateur Championship, also placed third in the PGA of Sweden Championship this summer, which is an event on the LET Access Series.
