Harris/Petersson Earn SEC Player of the Week Honors – University of South Carolina Athletics

Junior All-American tabbed Men’s Golfer of the Week for the fourth time and Petersson named Freshman of the Week after strong collegiate debut

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Redshirt junior All-American Frankie Harris and freshman August Petersson both earned SEC Player of the Week accolades the league office announced on Wednesday. Harris was tabbed SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week alongside Texas A&M’s Aaron Pounds and Oklahoma’s Jase Summy. Petersson was named Freshman of the Week alongside Vanderbilt’s Michael Riebe.

Harris was co-champion of the season-opening Gopher Invitational (Sept. 7-8) with Pounds and Iowa State’s Paul Beauvy. The Boca Raton, Fla., native shot 205 (-8) with scores of 69-67-69. He made 12 birdies and just four bogeys during the event with just one bogey over his final 26 holes. It marked his fourth career win in three seasons of competing at South Carolina, which is T-2nd most wins in program history.

Harris has now been named SEC Golfer of the Week four times in his career which is tied with former All-American George Byan IV for the most SEC Player of the Week honors in program history.

Peterson was strong in his collegiate debut earning runner-up medalist honors at the Minnesota Golf Classic (Sept. 6-7) competing as an individual. The Gnosjö, Sweden native shot 208 (-8) with scores of 63-75-70. His bogey free 63 (-9) in the opening round tied the school record for 18-hole low score. Petersson made 17 birdies at Pioneer Golf Course to lead the 110-man field.

The No. 21 Gamecocks will be back in action Sept. 29-30 as the team plays host to the inaugural Bryan Bros Collegiate at Solina Golf Club. The event is free and open to the public to attend.
