CLEMSON, S.C. — After a strong third-place finish at the Bryan Brothers Collegiate in West Columbia, S.C. on Monday, the Clemson men’s golf team jumps back on the road October 5-7 at the Marquette Invitational at Erin Hills. It will be Clemson’s first ever appearance in a tournament in Wisconsin.
This will be Clemson’s fourth tournament of the fall season and it enters this event with a 29-9-2 record against the field in the previous three events. The Marquette Invitational at Erin Hills will feature a 14-team field, including Power 4 conference schools Rutgers, Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin, Texas A&M and the Tigers. Other schools in the field include Siena, UC Davis, San Diego State, Chattanooga, UAB, Nevada, Oral Roberts and host school Marquette.
Erin Hills is one of the top courses in the nation and was the host to the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open last summer. It has also been the site of the 2017 Men’s U.S. Open that was won by Brooks Koepka, and the 2011 U.S. Amateur. The public course that is 35 miles north of Milwaukee, Wisc., opened in 2006.
Clemson’s lineup will include two seniors, two sophomores and a freshman. Lucas Augustsson will be in the top position in the order after registering consecutive seventh-place finishes. His 70.56 stroke average so far this year includes five rounds in the 60s, including a career best 64 in the second round of the Bryan Brothers last week. He had a team best 17 under-par holes (16 birdies and an eagle) in registering a career best 206 score. He has shot in the 60s in the final round in each of the three tournaments so far this year.
Fellow senior Thomas Higgins is coming off a 10th-place finish at the Bryan Brothers. He shot under par in all three rounds, the first Tiger to do that this year. The native of Ireland has a 72.33 stroke average and has five under-par rounds to tie for the team lead. He and Augustsson are the only Clemson golfers with two top 10s over the first three tournaments of the year.
Rich Wills and Colin Salema are the two sophomores in the Clemson lineup for this event. Willis has a 71.88 stroke average for three events and has five rounds at par or better. The native of Cramerton, N.C. has finished between 20-28 in all three events. He was one-under-par at the Bryan Brothers to finish 24th. Salema is coming off the best round of his Clemson career, a 66 at the Bryan Brothers. The native of Matthews, N.C. has a 74.00 average for the year.
