Women’s Golf to Compete in ANNIKA Intercollegiate

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the eighth time, the Duke women’s golf program will participate in the premier season-opening event in collegiate golf – The 2024 ANNIKA Intercollegiate – as the Blue Devils were one of 12 teams revealed in an announcement Monday by the ANNIKA Foundation.  The event will take place Sept. 8-11 at the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.

Along with the Blue Devils, Arizona State, Clemson, Iowa State, Purdue, California, UCLA, Central Florida, Minnesota, Oregon, South Carolina and Wake Forest will compete.  The tournament will feature 54 holes of stroke play over three days.

Duke returns two starters from a season ago – Andie Smith and Katie Li – along with senior Rylie Heflin.  The Blue Devils also welcome a trio of incoming freshmen – Anna Cañado Espinal, Carla De Troia and Martina Yu – under the direction of head coach Dan Brooks, who enters his 41st season at Duke.

One exemption to The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge will be awarded to the winning team of 2024 ANNIKA Intercollegiate.

Of Duke’s seven appearances in the past, the Blue Devils carded a second-place ledger in 2021 with a 7-under-par, 857, which was Duke’s best finish in the event.  This past year, senior Phoebe Brinker registered an 8-under-par, 208, to finish in a tie for first overall for the highest individual placement.

The tournament will also feature a “Share My Passion” clinic, offering girls ages 6 to 14 an opportunity to learn golf fundamentals and invaluable insights from Annika Sorenstam, a moderated Q&A with Sorenstam and a College-Am to connect players with local businesses to build relationships and connections for their future.
