Five Men’s Golfers Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars – Vanderbilt University Athletics – Official Athletics Website

NORMAN, Okla. – On Thursday, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced that the Vanderbilt men’s golf team had five golfers selected to the 2023-24 -24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for NCAA Division I.

William Moll, Matthew Riedel, Gordon Sargent, Cole Sherwood, and Jackson Van Paris were each named to the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar team. All five were also selected to a GCAA Division I PING All-American team. It marks the first time in men’s collegiate golf history that a program has had the same five golfers represented on both GCAA teams.

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior, or senior both academically and athletically. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Moll made his first appearance on the All-America Scholar team after he held a 71.19 stroke average and posted five top-five finishes during the 2023-24 season. The Houston, Texas, native also picked up a GCAA Division I PING All-America honorable mentions selection in June, making him the fourth Dore to earn four GCAA All-American honors. Moll became the first Commodore to win an NCAA Regional, as he was the individual medalist at the 2024 NCAA West Lafayette Regional after carding a season-low 7-under 209.

It is the third career All-America Scholar selection for Riedel. The 2024 Haskins Award finalist led the Commodores with a 70.11 scoring average and was named a GCAA Division I PING Second Team All-American. Riedel collected seven top-10 finishes during the 2023-24 season and tied for second in stroke play at the 2024 SEC Championship with a 54-hole score of 6-under 204.

Sargent earned his second career All-America Scholar honor after another stellar season with the Commodores. The Birmingham, Alabama, native finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 70.15 scoring average and was the medalist at the 2024 Mason Rudolph Championship, becoming the second golfer to win back-to-back tournaments in the event’s history. His win at the 2024 Mason Rudolph extended his program record for most career wins to six. Sargent posted runner-up finishes at the 2024 NCAA Championship and the NCAA West Lafayette Regional and recorded seven top-10 finishes. Earlier this…
