Audubon International announced three new at-large members of its board of directors: Jim Pavonetti, the golf course superintendent and director of golf course and grounds at Fairview Country Club in Greenwich, Connecticut; David Robinson, golf course superintendent and senior director with Marriott Golf overseeing agronomics for Marriott’s global golf portfolio; and JC Chi, principal and co-founder of Kuo Diedrich Chi Planners & Architects in Atlanta, Georgia.
Audubon International is an environmentally focused non-profit organization that offers certification and conservation initiatives to its members, which heavily feature golf courses around the country. These three additions to the organization’s board are prominent figures in the golf industry and are well positioned to fulfill Audubon’s mission, said Christine Kane, CEO of Audubon International.
“They will help expand our message to future members who truly want and need to establish a sustainable culture through potent partnerships, best practices, consistent communication and wise investments,” she said. “We are thrilled to bring their deep experience and new perspectives to bear as our board charts our way forward.”
Pavonetti has long been a champion of Audubon’s efforts and has served in his position at Fairview Country Club since 2008. His efforts led to Fairview receiving the Arthur P. Weber Environmental Leader in Golf Award in 2019, and Pavonetti himself has received the Environmental Leaders in Golf Award from the GCSAA and Golf Digest eight times between 2006 and 2023.
“I hope to promote the programs to turf students entering the industry, assistant superintendents, and young golf course superintendents,” Pavonetti said. “They are the future, and I think that their participation is important to the golf and turf industry and to the future of the public view on golf course maintenance operations.”
Robinson is a certified golf irrigation auditor in addition to being a certified golf superintendent. An active member of the GCSAA and numerous associations in Florida, he also serves on multiple boards and committees inside the golf industry.
“I am honored to be elected to the board,” Robinson said. “Audubon International has been Marriott Golf’s foundational sustainability program for nearly 20 years. I look forward to working closely with the organization to help build their presence within the industry and further promote golf sustainability.”
