Women’s Golf Concludes Play at Cougar Classic – Penn State

HANAHAN, S.C. – The Penn State women’s golf team fired a final round 9-over, 293, their lowest of the week, on Tuesday as they concluded play at the Cougar Classic. The Nittany Lions finished the week 16th at 35-over for the championship.

Auburn earned the victory with a 5-under score, one stroke clear of LSU who finished second at 4-under. Virginia Tech finished third at 7-over while Miami, Boston College, Florida and SMU each finished at 13-over and tied for fourth.

Freshman Jiratchaya Jiratthitinun (Bangkok, Thailand) impressed in her first collegiate tournament saving the best for last with a 1-under, 70, on Tuesday to move up 12 spots and finish the week tied for 26th in the 93-player field at 3-over, 216.

“I hit the ball really well this week and made some good putts today,” mentioned Jiratthitinun. “This was a great experience, and it was really fun to play in my first event as a Nittany Lion. I am looking forward to the Nittany Lion Invitational this weekend.”

Senior Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.) carded back-to-back rounds of 72 (1-over) to go with an opening round 74 and finished the week tied for 38th at 5-over, 218. Classmate Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) registered back-to-back 74’s and finished the week 13-over.

Senior Jami Morris (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and junior Myranda Quinton (Burlington, Ontario) rounded out the scoring for the week at 15-over and 22-over, respectively.
