CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini are headed to the University of Virginia to play in the Cavalier Regional Preview at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Va. The tournament will be held from Monday, Sept. 23, to Tuesday, Sept. 24.
THE SETTING
The Cavalier Regional Preview is an annual event that has been taking place since 2015. Birdwood Golf Course was rated by Golf Magazine as the No. 7 course in Virginia, Golf Digest also named it “Best in State” due to its immaculate greens and peaceful fairways. Established in 1984, the course was designed by the famous PGA Professional David Love III and Love Golf Design. Located in Charlottesville, Birdwood Golf offers a premier experience, including 18 championship holes, The Nest par-3 course, and the extensive Ridges putting course, which covers nearly an acre. The course will be set up for a par 71 and will play 6,320 yards.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
This 54-hole stroke play tournament will feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Monday play begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT, with tee times on Tuesday starting at 7 a.m. CT.
THE FIELD
Along with the Illini, this 71-player, 12-team event includes, Charlotte, Georgetown, Iowa, James Madison, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, Penn State, Richmond, Tennessee and Virginia.
