Simpson, Woosley-Reed Post Top-Five Finishes at Valero Texas Collegiate


SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Tennessee golfers Lance Simpson and Evan Woosley-Reed tied for fifth at the Valero Texas Collegiate inside a strong field.

The duo shot 6-under overall. Simpson shot par or lower in each round, including a pair of 3-under 69s in rounds one and three. The Knoxville native has now posted back-to-back top-five finishes to open the fall season.

Woosley-Reed used a final-round 65 to surge up the leaderboard to secure his fourth career top-five finish. The Shelbyville, Tennessee, native’s 7-under showing in round three marks a career-low 18-hole score in relation to par.

As a team, Tennessee shot 10-under overall and finished in eighth place.

Josh Hill, UT’s third-highest finisher, tied for 24th after shooting 1-under overall. Hill now has finished inside the top 25 five times in his collegiate career.

Bruce Murphy tied for 58th after shooting 6-over. The redshirt junior’s best round of the event came on day two when he fired a 72.

The final member of the lineup, Jackson Herrington, tied for 74th as Pearce Lewin competed individually and tied for 79th.

UP NEXT: The Vols will compete at the Fighting Irish Classic for their third tournament of the fall, which runs from Sunday, Oct. 6 through Tuesday, Oct. 7.
